What Makes Us Different

"Lo Que Nos Distingue"

History of the Dojo

The history of the Upland Z Ultimate Dojo starts in neighboring Claremont, CA over 20 years ago. At that time Sensei Alen began his service to the local community. The Dojo has been home to its members by providing a family-oriented environment. The blend of disciplined training, personal instruction, community events, and family participation make the Dojo more than just a classroom.

In 2013, with the support of its members and other dojos in the surrounding area, the Claremont Dojo moved to Upland, CA. Our new home continues to provide life-changing, character building personal experiences. We take this commitment a step further by offering extended hours for private lessons in a safe environment. Unlike some studios all of our instructors are LiveScan certified and registered with the Department of Justice and FBI.

What is unique about Z Ultimate Self Defense Studios instruction is a philosophy of leadership that teaches, “Be a product of what you represent”. Every single staff and support member of the Z Ultimate family are martial artists and train actively. By doing so, we are never “out of touch” with what is happening in our locations because we are students, too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times a week can I attend?

Your private lessons will be scheduled at your convenience, and you may attend any and all of the group classes. We offer group or special invite classes 6 days a week. Most students will attend their private class plus 3 group classes.

What if I miss a private lesson/group class?

If you need to miss a private lesson you must reschedule with your instructor so that it can be made up at a later time. If you miss a group class, try to make an extra group class the following week. You can come to any and all of them.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. In order to receive a discounted tuition, we ask that you sign an agreement. Agreements that receive a discount are for 6, 12, or 24 months.

What happens if I change my mind?

Cancellations before the end of your agreement require 30 days notice and may require a payment of any discounts received.

How do I stay consistent in my training?

Communication is key. You must let your instructor know if you will be gone for any length of time. You must communicate any planned (or unplanned) absences so that your lessons will not be lost. This will avoid any billing errors due to lack of communication. You can avoid late fees by simply letting us know what is going on with your billing.

How are instructors trained?

Our instructors are trained in both the martial arts and in teaching. Instructors take both private lessons and group classes with their own instructor. We also meet several times a week to discuss teaching strategies.
